Corvette Jet Funny Truck

Driver: Kevin Therres

The canola based biodiesel jet funny car is a 2007 Chevrolet Corvette powered by a J60 Pratt and Whitney Jet Engine that is more commonly used in the T-2 Buckeye, an intermediate training aircraft for the US Navy. The car is specifically designed for drag racing with dual parachutes and the aerodynamice design of the Corvette body.

It is the world's first jet car running on B100 which means 100% canola based biodiesel. It has gone 6.3 sec. in the 1/4 mile and a speed of 254 miles per hour, produces 7500 horse power the rear wheels are not driven by the engine but by thrust out of the afterburner. The engine burns 23 gallons every run, we are track record holders at Terrace B.C. Altona Man. Yorkton and Saskatoon Sk. Medicine Hat, Alberta. We are currently the only jet car running on B100.

The car has been name Prairie Gold, due to the unique fuel being used in the Jet Engine. Prairie Gold runs on pure Canola Based B100 Biodiesel supplied by Foam Lake, SK biodiesel producer Milligan Bio-Tech Inc. This fuel is very unique in that it is made entirely from Prairie Grown Canola - there are no petrochemical products in the fuel. Running on biodiesel makes this car not only one of the fastest Corvettes you'll ever see, but also the most environmentally friendly. Prairie Gold is expected to reach speeds of 250mph in about 6.5seconds on a quarter mile drag racing track.

This clean burning speed machine can be seen travelling across Canada and northern United States.

What is Biodiesel?

Biodiesel is produced from oilseeds like canola by a process called transesterification. Canola seed is crushed and the oil is reacted with an alcohol to produce biodiesel.  Two valuable co-products are also produced; a high protein meal for livestock from the crushing operation, and glycerin, which can be used in pharmaceutical, cosmetics and food processing industries from the reaction that produces the biodiesel.
