Manitoba canola growers endow
agriculture scholarship at the University of Manitoba
2006 Manitoba canola growers will award a scholarship to a full-time student in third or fourth year of the degree program in the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences at the University of Manitoba. It will be known as the Manitoba Canola Growers Association Scholarship and will go to an eligible student with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 who has demonstrated extensive involvement in extracurricular activities such as sports or student politics.
Ernie Sirski is a canola grower from the Dauphin area and president of the Manitoba Canola Growers Association. MCGA is very excited to be able to establish this scholarship," he says. "Educating our young people is our responsibility and privilege."
MCGA contributed $25,000 to set up the scholarship fund. The Provincial Government's Manitoba Scholarship and Bursary Initiative matched the contribution to establish an endowment fund of $50,000. The first scholarship, valued at the available annual income, will be offered in 2006.
MCGA also funds a bursary for a student at the University of Manitoba.
