Canola growers donate farm equipment
to University of Manitoba
The University of Manitoba's Carman Research Station will benefit from a recent donation of used farm equipment from the Manitoba Canola Growers Association (MCGA).
MCGA recently passed a motion to donate several items to the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences. MCGAs equipment became available when the Canola Council of Canada changed its focus from field research to agronomic extension.
The equipment included:
- a Case International 885 Tractor with Case IH front end loader
- a 13' Bourgault seeder
- a 35' Ag Shield shrouded sprayer
- an 18' Versatile swather with pickup reel, and
- a 7' Buhler Farm King Mower
Dr. Murray Ballance, Plant Science Department head, says the donation from MCGA is especially timely.
"We are in the process of expanding our Carman research property by 160 acres and consequently, there will be a higher demand by our researchers for field equipment to conduct their studies. This gift is greatly appreciated," he says.
"MCGA and the University of Manitoba have a great working relationship and it is with great pleasure that the Board of Directors donates this equipment on behalf of canola growers in Manitoba." states Ernie Sirski, President of the Manitoba Canola Growers Association.
